Some big news hit the media world Thursday when G/O Media, the new owner of the former Gizmodo Media Group, announced that it would be shutting down 2-year-old news and opinion site Splinter. But at least one large news organization didn’t find the shutdown all that newsworthy: G/O Media itself. London (CNN)Ginger Baker, notorious hellraiser and celebrated drummer in the supergroup Cream, has died at the age of 80 at a hospital in the United Kingdom. Spandau Ballet songwriter Gary Kemp and film director Edgar Wright also paid tribute to a musician who inspired countless others. Baker grew up in Lewisham, south London, son of a bricklayer. His father was killed in World War II when Baker was only four years old. Microplastics have been found in the stomachs of a number of marine organisms, and chemical additives from microplastics can also bleed out into the ocean, according to the NOAA. It is also possible that contaminants from the water may adhere to microplastics. The NOAA has not yet been determined if these contaminants transfer through the food chain. The San Francisco Estuary Institute teamed up with the 5 Gyres Institute to complete a three-year study in what they claim is the first comprehensive regional study of microplastic pollution. The study found that more than 7 trillion pieces of microplastics wash into the San Francisco Bay each year, with much …
